Hydrogen Service Bay Buyer’s Guide
Compare bay configurations, define the work you need to perform, and prepare a useful request for a proposal.
For dealership owners, fleet managers, purchasing teams, and facility planners.
Start with the service work
A vehicle count alone does not define a hydrogen service bay. List the vehicle models, hydrogen storage locations, planned repair tasks, and manufacturer service procedures. Include how the vehicle enters the bay, how technicians reach service points, and whether lifting equipment changes the working envelope.
Compare the complete working envelope
Automotive, truck and equipment, and transit bus configurations address different vehicle sizes and service access needs. Published dimensions are a starting point for discussion. Confirm clearances against your largest vehicle, doors, lifts, roof-mounted equipment, and the work your technicians actually perform.
- Automotive: dealership and passenger FCEV service programs.
- Truck & equipment: larger vehicles, work clearances, and heavier service equipment.
- Bus & fleet: long vehicle envelopes, roof access, and transit maintenance workflows.
- Custom: building constraints, multiple service positions, or specialized applications.
Ask how the safety functions work together
Review the capture hood and enclosure, hydrogen detection, exhaust, alarms, interlocks, lighting, and Smart Control Panel as a coordinated system. Ask for the proposed sequence of operation and the documentation used to confirm the installed response. Final components and ratings depend on the application and local requirements.
Compare proposal scope, not just equipment price
Identify what is included in engineering, drawings, permits, utilities, freight, unloading, installation, commissioning, and training. Clarify owner and contractor responsibilities before comparing proposals. Confirm the applicable warranty and commercial terms in writing for your specific project.
