One system. One Smart Control Panel. One Marathon team.
Purpose-built.
Not pieced together.
A hydrogen service bay is a purpose-built maintenance environment for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). Marathon coordinates hydrogen detection, airflow, containment, exhaust, alarms, interlocks and power isolation as one system, configured around your vehicles, facility and service procedures.
Our family-owned company began building industrial spray booths in 2004. That experience controlling airflow in demanding environments became the foundation for a dedicated hydrogen service bay developed with Toyota.
AUTOMATIC SAFETY SYSTEMS
Hydrogen gas sensors constantly monitor the work environment and will activate safety components and procedures automatically — without human interaction.
PROVEN VENTILATION DESIGN
Air is drawn up and into the work area. Any released hydrogen gas travels up through the ducting and is discharged outdoors above the roof line in accordance with the engineered project design.
CLASSIFIED LED LIGHTING
UL Certified Class I, Division 2 LED lighting provides bright, efficient illumination with minimal shadowing — rated for environments where hydrogen gas may be present.
SMART CONTROL PANEL
Marathon's exclusive automated Hydrogen Service Bay control panel monitors all system components and manages ventilation, alarms, and equipment interlock for safe operation.
Check out our 'Smart' Control Panel.
Every Marathon Hydrogen Service Bay ships with our exclusive Smart control panel. It monitors gas levels in real time, escalates alarms automatically, and protects your team — even when no one is in the building.
- →Auto-Purge mode activates the moment unsafe gas is detected.
- →Full Purge & power isolation if hydrogen exceeds 25% of LFL.
- →Auto-Mode is always on — even when the panel is powered down.

Engineered for Safety and Compliance
Safer Servicing Environment
Active LFL monitoring combined with automated interlocks to instantly isolate power and extract gas during a release.
Specialized FCEV Design
Engineered specifically for the rapid upward dispersion characteristics of hydrogen gas, addressing potential accumulation at ceiling high points.
Category-Specific Architecture
From under-chassis automotive storage to roof-mounted transit bus tanks, our extraction strategies target the source.
Manufacturing Credibility
Backed by the industrial manufacturing infrastructure and engineering heritage of Marathon Finishing Systems, Inc.
Prepare your facility before the vehicles arrive
Hydrogen fleet readiness starts before the first vehicle enters the shop. Marathon helps identify the service-bay configuration, facility interfaces and project requirements needed to support a safer hydrogen maintenance operation.
START A FACILITY READINESS REVIEWSTANDARD COMPONENTS
A typical Marathon Hydrogen Service Bay combines a purpose-built capture hood, perimeter containment curtain, hydrogen detection, engineered exhaust, make-up air, classified lighting and electrical components where required, alarms, interlocks, and the Marathon Smart control panel. Final components and ratings are defined by the vehicle type, service procedure, facility conditions, adopted codes, and local requirements.
RETROFIT OR NEW CONSTRUCTION
Marathon evaluates whether a purpose-built Hydrogen Service Bay can be integrated into an existing maintenance facility or planned into a new building. Vehicle clearances, ceiling geometry, utilities, ventilation discharge, electrical requirements, adopted codes and AHJ direction determine the final scope. Where facility conditions allow, a contained service-bay approach may reduce the need to convert the entire maintenance shop.
Safety is not an accessory. It is the infrastructure.
Hydrogen requires specialized thinking. Our engineering philosophy assumes that leaks are possible and designs the facility itself to be the primary mitigation response. We do not make sensational claims; we deliver rigorous, code-compliant, and proven safety architectures.
Engineered to Exacting Standards
From initial facility assessment to final commissioning, our team coordinates the bay, building interfaces, and approved scope.
