Codes & Commissioning

Permitting & Project Responsibilities

Clarify who provides the information, drawings, approvals, and site work before your project starts.

For owners, project managers, engineers, general contractors, and purchasing teams.

Bring the right people into the first conversation

Identify the owner’s project lead, vehicle service specialist, architect or engineer, contractor, and the local fire and building officials. The Authority Having Jurisdiction, often abbreviated AHJ, is the organization or official responsible for the relevant approval. Different parts of a project can involve different reviewers.

Write down the scope boundaries

Marathon configures the bay around the application and works with the project team through installation and commissioning. Licensed engineering partners can provide site surveys, mechanical, electrical and fire protection design, professionally stamped drawings, and third-party commissioning when included in the project scope. Permitting remains the responsibility of the owner or their contractor.

Confirm the adopted requirements

Use the code editions adopted by the project’s jurisdiction. Discuss the applicable building, existing building, fire, mechanical and electrical requirements, together with NFPA 2, with the design team and reviewing officials. A product brochure or planning checklist is not a permit approval.

Keep an approval and responsibility register

For each deliverable, record the responsible party, reviewer, due date, and current revision. Typical discussion items include the site plan, bay layout, utility interfaces, equipment sequence, installation scope, inspections, and commissioning documentation. Resolve open items before they affect manufacturing or site work.
